Executive Director African Institute for Security Studies
The Institute for Security Studies is a leading think tank dedicated to advancing human security in Africa. Co-founded by Jakkie Cilliers in 1990, it has offices in South Africa, Ethiopia, Senegal and Kenya. Current programs and projects include work on security sector reform in Africa, arms control and proliferation and reconciliation in Burundi. Cilliers has published a number of books relating to peace and security in Africa and serves on the editorial boards of the African Security Review and the South African Journal of International Affairs.
