The United States Institute of Peace is a conflict management centre created by Congress to prevent and mitigate international conflict. Past projects include working with tribal chiefs, judges and police in South Sudan to prevent electoral violence, training mediators in Libya and researching drivers of conflict. The Center also provides grants to innovative peace building projects as well as running the buildingpeace.org website to introduce new audiences to concepts and skills in conflict management. The current President is Jim Marshall, a former law professor, soldier and mayor. He also served as a congressman between 2003 and 2011.
