Joseph R Chennelly is known for being the first journalist to report from Pakistan and Afghanistan following the 9/11 attacks. As a Marine correspondent deployed with American troops at the outset of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, he wrote some of the very earliest dispatches from what became two of America’s longest wars.
No longer on active duty with, he is now based in Washington, where he focuses on the policy aspects of war. He is also assistant national director of communications for Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Washington, D.C.
