Leila Zerrougui

The mandate of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict was established by a UN General Assembly resolution in 1996. The office aims to promote and protect the rights of all children affected in armed conflict. Among the areas which are of particular concern are the killing and maiming of children, the recruitment of child soldiers, and attacks against schools and hospitals. Zerruougui was appointed in 2012 and is a legal expert on human rights. She was previously a member of the Algerian Supreme Court.Leila Zerrougui
