Marc Marginedas is a Spanish journalist who is currently a special correspondent in Syria for El Periodico de Catalunya, a Barcelona-based newspaper. Marc has been a correspondent for El Periodico for twenty years, starting his career covering the Algerian civil war. He previously worked as a foreign correspondent in Moscow, where he reported on the Chechen war, and on numerous other armed conflicts, such as the 2003 – 2010 Iraq war, the war in Afghanistan, the Darfur crisis and the Arab Spring.
On 4 September, 2013, Marginedas apparently disappeared while on his third reporting trip to Syria. His disappearance was kept secret until 24 September. It is thought that he was abducted by insurgents outside Hama, in the west of Syria. Nothing has been heard from him since his disappearance, although efforts continue to secure his release.
