Unni Karunakara
International President for Médecins Sans Frontières
Unni Karunakara is the International President of Médecins Sans Frontières, (MSF), he leads the International Board and International General Assembly. Meaning “Doctors Without Borders” in English, MSF is a medical humanitarian organisation which provides emergency aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics and natural disasters. They recently sent staff to assist victims trapped in Misrata in Libya and currently run three field hospitals in Syria. Karunakara first joined the organisation in 1995 when he set up a tuberculosis control programme in Ethiopia. He was elected President in 2010.
