SCANNA produces portable x-ray variants that are used for Counter-IED  or C-IED work.  They have been used by military personnel as well as law enforcement.

The portable x-ray systems have the ability to detect Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Not only can they detect the devices themselves  but can also be used for post blast investigation and analysis, which can aid in a broader counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency, or law enforcement effort.

The scanners are also provided for EOD technicians. This is in order for the technicians to be able to examine the internal components of suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs), or unexploded ordnances (UXOs). This is to aid in the safe and successful disposal of IED and other similar devices.

SCANNA advertise about 9 products that are said to be for C-IED work and tailored to different needs – ie. law enforcement, customs, post-blast investigations, and building security for example. Much of the equipment appears to be applicable in an array of C-IED situations.

This profile is part of AOAV’s investigation into counter-IED (C-IED) actors around the globe. To see the list of all C-IED actors recorded by AOAV, see here. To see those engaged in the Middle East, the Sahel, North Africa or other highly impacted countries please see here, here, here, and here respectively. This research was made possible by funding from the NATO Counter Improvised Explosive Devices Centre of Excellence (C-IED COE).
