Explosive violence affects dozens of countries around the world. There are, though, some countries that repeatedly witness the harm wrought by weapons that range from artillery shells to air-dropped bombs to improvised explosive devices.
In 2021, the top five worst-affected countries in terms of civilian casualties from explosive weapons were Afghanistan, Syria, Gaza, Yemen and Iraq.
Below are a list of ten ‘hottest spots’ that have emerged from AOAV’s data on explosive violence around the world over the last decade, between 2011 and 2020.
