Explosive violence by the Syrian armed forces

Over the past decade (2014-3023), AOAV has recorded 1,924 incidents of explosive weapons use attributed to Syria. The Syrian armed forces are the reported perpetrators of 16, 908 civilian casualties (7,962 killed), and 1,724 armed actor casualties (1,377 killed). ​​​​​​​​

​​ Attacks attributed to the Syrian army have been recorded in Syria (16,570 civilian casualties), Iraq (285), Lebanon (50), Israel (3), and Egypt (no civilian casualties). ​​​​​​​​

​​ Air-launched weapons account for 66% (11,152) of civilian casualties attributed to Syria, and ground-launched weapons for 28% (4,655). ​​​​​​​​

​​ The majority of civilian casualties were recorded in Syrian attacks across multiple urban areas, which account for 35% (5,999) of civilian casualties. Other locations impacted by attacks attributed to the Syrian armed forces include urban residential areas (3,873 civilian casualties), markets (2,511), villages (1,584), encampments (381), and schools (330).
