What is Gift Aid?
Charities take your donation (which is money you’ve already paid tax on), and then reclaim tax on its ‘gross’ equivalent.
In practice, this means that if you give £10 to charity using Gift Aid, that gift is worth £12.50.
AOAV will treat all donations that you have made for the past four years and all donations you make in the future as Gift Aid donations, until you tell AOAV otherwise.
Who can use Gift Aid?
UK Taxpayers can tick the box, as long as they pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax for each tax year (6 April one year to 5 April the next) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all charities and community amateur sports clubs you donate to will reclaim. Council tax and VAT do not count.
Benefits to higher-rate taxpayer
If you pay tax at the higher rate, you can reclaim tax relief on your gross donation at 20% (i.e. the difference between the higher rate of tax at 40% and the basic rate at 20%).
If you do not pay tax, you should not use Gift Aid.
How will AOAV use my contact details?
It is critical to our work in addressing global armed violence that we communicate with those interested in our work – our supporters. By providing us with your details, you agree to receive information about the important work we do and with your support, you will be updated on how your money is being used to fund our work. You can subscribe to receive updates from us via post or telephone. You can also sign up to our mailing list for more regular updates.
