Explosive Violence in January 2023

In January 2023, Action on Armed Violence recorded 3,211 deaths and injuries from 524 incidents of explosive violence around the world, as reported in English-language media. Civilians accounted for 50% (1,614) of the deaths and injuries recorded.

21 killed and 33 injured in suicide bombing at Kabul mosque, 17 Aug.

During evening prayers on Wed 17 August, a suicide bomber attacked Abu Bakr al Sadiq mosque, killing 21 and injuring 33 people.

At least 16 people killed and 40 injured in two explosions in Kabul, 5 and 6 Aug. 

On Friday 5 August, at least eight people were killed and 18 injured. On Saturday 6 August, at least eight people were killed and 22 injured.
