As of 17 September 2026, AOAV has recorded 53,948 civilian casualties (34,176 killed, 19,772 injured) from explosive weapons use in the OPT in the course of Operation Swords of Iron.

In 2025, AOAV recorded 49,814 deaths and injuries as a result of the use of explosive weapons around the world, the second-highest levels recorded since 2010. With 45,362 civilians among these casualties – 91% of all those reported killed or wounded by explosive weapons globally – 2025 was the second most injurious year for civilians since the EVMP began. 39% (17,614) of these civilians were reported killed.

AOAV has rounded up 12 Russian weapons – Russia’s ‘dirty dozen’ – that have been linked to deadly attacks against the civilian population of Ukraine.

From 13 to 19 October 2023, AOAV has recorded 217 incidents of explosive violence around the world, and 1,619 civilian casualties.

On Thursday 5th October, a Russian Iskander missile struck a wake in Hroza village, Kharkiv, killing up to 52 people.

At least 15 civilians were killed and 22 injured in a missile strike on a market in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk.

On Saturday 19 August, seven civilians were killed and over 150 people injured by a Russian Iskander missile strike in Chernihiv.

On Monday 7 August, two Iskander missiles hit Pokrovsk city centre within approximately 40 minutes of each other.

Six people were killed and over 80 injured in a Russian missile strike on an apartment complex and a university building in the central Ukrainian town of Kryvyi Rih.

On Tuesday 27 June, 12 civilians were killed and 60 injured in a Russian missile strike on a restaurant in Kramatorsk, Donestk.

Since Israel’s pre-dawn airstrikes on Tuesday, 9 May 2023, AOAV has recorded at least 74 civilian casualties throughout the Gaza strip.

On Friday 14 April, 15 civilians were killed and 24 injured in a Russian S-300 missile strike in Sloviansk, Donetsk.
