In 2023, AOAV recorded 47,476 deaths and injuries as a result of the use of explosive weapons around the world. Civilians continued to suffer disproportionately, accounting for 73% of total casualties, with 34,791 civilian deaths and injuries.

Explosive Violence in March 2024

In March 2024, Action on Armed Violence recorded 4,156 deaths and injuries from 693 incidents of explosive violence around the world, as reported in English-language media. Civilians accounted for 86% (3,572) of the deaths and injuries recorded.

Explosive Violence in January 2024

In January 2024, Action on Armed Violence recorded 5,612 deaths and injuries from 757 incidents of explosive violence around the world, as reported in English-language media. Civilians accounted for 85% (4,783) of the deaths and injuries recorded.

Myanmar: three years of a devastating, under-reported war

The conflict in Myanmar resulted in 2,164 reported civilian casualties from explosive weapons in 2023, including 745 fatalities. This represents a 121% and 155% increase in casualties and deaths, respectively, over 2022.
