The center finds and analyses information on IEDs. Using this information it can make recommendations to soldiers and other relevant departments in Germany in regard to appropriate protective measures for the safety of soldiers and other in contact with IEDs, as well as C-IED tactics, to detect and defeat the device/network.

The Bundeswehr C-IED Branch also aids in the related planning and management for operations abroad.

Information sharing and cooperation is considered essential as part of their work and often engage with similar organisations as well as military allies in order to combat the increasing threat IEDs pose.

The center is said to be the central point of contact for the provision of data and information about IEDs, principally for the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces. The Bundelswehr C-IED Branch is also responsible for giving quick warning in response to the threat of imminent IED attacks, in order for those on the ground to respond.
