Location: South Turkey
DDG have been providing ERW risk education to Syrian refugees in Turkey since 2013. It is hoped this will not only be useful in Turkey where the area is unfamiliar to them but also for those returning home to areas in Syria, much of which will remian dangerous due to the scale of the violence, which will inevitably leave UXO and pose a great danger to civilians for many years.
Similarly to the program in Syria, children are the primary target of this education, though adults are taught as well. This is because it is most likely that children will be interested in any objects lying on the ground that they cannot identify leaving them at increased risk.
Humanitarian organisations operating from Turkey and providing assistance to those affected in Northern Syria are also provided with MRE.
