The National Police are the main counterterrorism enforcers in Senegal, with the assistance of the gendarmerie. The police carry out investigations for terrorism related crimes, as well as carry out everyday counterterrorism activities such as stop and searches, and surveillance.
The counterterrorism unit of the national intelligence services assists with surveillance and investigations.
The police have an anti-terrorist unit, designed to respond to terrorism incidents and capture terrorists. Police presence in public areas has also been increased to provide greater security in these areas.
