The Swedish EOD and Demining Centre (SWEDEC) is Sweden’s centre of excellence for national, military, police, and international missions within the area of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD).

SWEDEC conducts both military and humanitarian operations, with a focus on training, development and operational support.

SWEDEC takes part in information sharing activities and cooperation with international experts and humanitarian organisations, such as the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD).

SWEDEC’s task include, implementing national and international courses, fact-gathering, documentation and research in the area of Explosive Ordnance Disposal, new IED (Improvised Explosive Devices), new clearance methods, and new equipment.

Information collected on IED will be logged on the database which can also be used by 14 other cooperating countries.

As part of the focus on training SWEDEC offers a range of courses directed at both military and civilian operations in the field. The training division is responsible for assuring that personnel who will be working with EOD and Demining have the knowledge and skills required to perform the work safely.

This profile is part of AOAV’s investigation into counter-IED (C-IED) actors around the globe. To see the list of all C-IED actors recorded by AOAV, see here. To see those engaged in the Middle East, the Sahel, North Africa or other highly impacted countries please see here, here, here, and here respectively. This research was made possible by funding from the NATO Counter Improvised Explosive Devices Centre of Excellence (C-IED COE).
